Netflix’s I am not okay with this is a 7 part series created by Jonathan Entwistle. He also created Netflix’s The End of the F***ing World. 

Rating : 6.5/10

Synopsis

I am not okay with this is about a teenage girl trying to fit in in high school while dealing with the complexities with her family, sexuality and her so called “super powers”. Sydny, the protagonist, finds out she can do things with her mind one day and she tries to keep it as a secret fro everyone. Stanley, “friend” of Sydney, trying to figure out and the control the “powers” of Syd. 

Thoughts on the Show. 

Story : I found the storyline a bit basic. Its started off like any other high school teen comedy, where the protagonist having a hard time fitting in. Upto the penultimate episode the story can be described as cliche. It just felt like i am watching a prologue of a movie which start only at the last episode. The story line also resembles The End of the F***ing World. Don’t get me wrong, it is still entertaining to watch. Have some funny scenes. Stanley’s Motherf***r dialogue was hysterical.

Acting : The acting was fine. They all did a good job with what they got. There is not many emotionally packed scenes but they did a good job. Especially Wyatt Oleff as Stanley Barber was an absolute delight to watch. 

Making : Since the show has the same creator as End of the F***ing World, the show resembles TEOTFW in many ways. Subtle camera movements, wide angle shots and warm colour grading are helped attain the mood of the show. Like the TEOTFW, I am not okay with this avoided unnecessary background musics.

To Conclude

I am not okay with this is an another teen comedy which is is enjoyable but we have seen enough shows like this to know where the story going.
